Captain Tamtastic

Local rivals Blossomfields were the latest to visit for a league game and the came upon a side that was slowly gelling together into a fast paced inter-active unit with threats from a multitude of areas.

The game started slowly as both teams started to probe each other attempting to find any weaknesses that could be exposed by each other and Sils were gradually taking the ascendency as their quick passing and movement was starting to take effect. With Ruth back to help anchor the middle Sils were exposing the weaker flanks as once again Annabelle, Issy, and Libby were exposing the lack of pace against them.

Frankie was once again leading the line but with Tammy in full flight threats were coming at every opportunity. Short corners weren’t quite the threat they had been previously but this didn’t seem to matter this week as the girls were on song. Halfway through the half Captain Tammy leading by example exchanged crisp passes to progress into the D and hit home from close in to take a deserved lead.

The game was far more physical than previously but the darting figures were evading contact as best they could with any threat on goal being stopped by the hard working defence of the two Emma’s and Lucy who despite being dwarfed by their opponents worked well together covering each other as required. The only real threat coming from a long range hopeful hit that cannoned off the post which Jo was the quickest to react to and dispatched efficiently. Bloss were finding it difficult to clear their lines and as the ball came out it was jumped on by the waiting midfield providing good cover to the defence and it wasn’t long before Ruth was able to feed Tammy who outsprinted the defenders to increase the lead. As half time neared Sils continued to expose the right hand side and after more intricate stick play Tammy was once again on hand to dispatch the ball into goal to claim her first hat trick of the season.

At half time despite having a good lead Jess was still not happy requesting that the team worked harder to expose the openings being created down the flanks exposing the Bloss backline. However, Bloss had their own plan and within ten minutes of the restart Tammy received the ball and was immediately flattened unceremoniously be a defender going straight through the back of her as she turned either the defender couldn’t either stop or more likely the first time they had got close to her but the result was a twisted knee and the goal hero was off for the rest of the game. Previously this had been a game changer but this year the team have alternatives and there was no let up with pressure being applied all round and Bloss pegged back into their own third with the only let up being big hits out of the backfield which either resulted in a free hit for Sils to start again or the ball being picked off by the ever eager midfield.

Jo was still having a quiet day in the Sils goal as the defence swept up anything that had actually broken through the midfield and feeding the4 midfield to once again start the attacks rolling Bloss were becoming distraught even accusing the diminutive figure of Lucy of pushing one of their large forwards in to he ground, as if, desperate measures to say the least but as Sils pressure mounted Annabel once again picked up the ball and sped off down the wing and after some good dribbling at pace she fed the waiting Frankie who made no mistake to take the score to 4:0.

Whilst there was no more scoring the game play didn’t really change as constant Sils pressure was being applied to the Bloss goal and they were keeping the ball out as best they could right on the final whistle there were big cheers from the Bloss bench as they finally gained a short corner, as the whistle blew for the end of the game the action became a little less controlled with Bloss camped on the edge of the D but after a couple of short corners the resolute defence were able to direct the ball away for another deserved win.

Great team performance all round and plenty of encouraging displays from the whole team.

MOM: Lucy Connors, going from strength to strength battled throughout and wasn’t put off by the physical confrontations and helped hold the backline steady with great inter-change and sweeping across the D.

DOD: Oh dear, can only be the boss Jess after expressing her concern to the team that a large number of shirts were lost these were found on her lap and to cap it all during the game a rather frantic attempt to dispatch the ball ended up with it being smashed into Ruth’s arm, welcome back Ruth.
