Sils fight to the end to secure a point

This was the first away match for the new look team and on arriving at the University of Warwick ground were met by the sight of a brand new resplendent blue astro that had been laid two weeks prior and was fast and bouncy all over the surface. The match was always going to be hard against a young athletic university team with the pitch adding a new dimension for both sides

The game started in the usual fast paced fashion but this time it didn’t stop for the whole match which was played at break neck speed throughout and for once University Warwick were matched stride for stride all the way. Sils were probing along the flanks whilst the Uni relied on their fast counter attacking style which kept the defence at full stretch throughout bolstered by the hard working midfield. As attacks broke down Sils found themselves having to defend from the front and with no let up subs were rolled on and off as players started to flag.
The Uni took the lead with a shot coming in from the left Jo was at full stretch to push it out but with the defence over stretched and two attackers waiting at the back post it was a simple tap in. But Sils re-grouped and within a few minutes Ruth found space in the middle of the D to smash home the equaliser. Warwick were stunned but were son back on the offensive with attacks and short corners traded equally until once again good work by the Warwick attack force once again found space and reacted quickest in a goal mouth melee to force home taking the lead once again. Half time provided a welcome respite and Sils chance to regroup and reassess the game plan and with the second period underway Sils were attacking once again and after initial attacks down the flanks Emma Fell collected a loose ball down the middle, evaded a number of tackles and fed Jess who leading by example slotted home the equaliser.

Warwick were starting to question themselves and after an initial wobble where the Sils forwards were crashing in shots and pegging the defenders back the momentum slowly ebbed back the Uni’s way as a half cleared shot was batted down out of the air into the bottom corner for them to once again take the lead. But there is no giving up with this Sils side and as the home defenders started to tire Captain Tam once again led the way with one of her hallmark goals to equalise once again stunning the home side into disbelief. As the game intensified Sils pressed hard to close down the outlets for the ball and Jess in the thick of the action was smashed on the wrist from close in, whilst she was carried off to hospital the side became more defensive and saw out the late Warwick pressure.

Good performance all round and the team stood up to all that was thrown at them battling all the way to the end.

MoM: Once again Lucy Connors claims the award for another outstanding defensive performance closing down the attackers and sweeping well along the back line.

DoD: Well it didn’t take long for Ami to hit the headlines and having been to the University many times before there was only one person missing at the allotted meet time and then Frankies phone rings and her illustriate strike partner is lost and needs to be directed in, bless.
