Uni too strong for the Sils

Whether it was the late afternoon pushback or just a sense of awe playing on yet more newly laid azure coloured pitches things didn’t quite go to plan this week. With a few absentees and up against a strong Uni side Sils found themselves 0:1 down within the first minute following a slick short corner routine. Sils started to come back into the game although found difficulty in matching the slick stick play and quick inter passing that was being displayed from their opponents. Just as the tide was turning a contentious point turned the match as a high aerial was launched into the Sils D a moments hesitation by the defence allowed a forward to capitalise to steer it home. Despite furious appeals the umpire was non plussed and a difficult game turned even harder.

Birmingham were by now full of confidence and moving the ball well the forwards were finding it hard going although there were signs of hope as both Amy and Frankie were starting to get shots away supplemented by the hard working Izzy down the left. Emma Fell was also busy but down the other end making a number of decisive interceptions ably supported by her hard working defenders but once again Sils were caught out and as yet another attack came in the Uni were the quickest to react and manged to deflect the ball home.

0:3 down at half time and time to reflect but this was probably one of the better Uni teams seen for a long time with crisp passing and a high level of energy and athleticism to match which is something that Sils are trying to aspire to and is not insurmountable. With Jess calling for a greater level of belief and confidence the second half was much better with the forwards posing problems from the start but any misplaced pass was punished severely with the Uni’s 4th goal coming from such a mistake and with the team pushing up the quick counter attack over powered the defence.

The team battled well and the midfield was once again not an aera for the faint hearted with Jess once again in the wars taking another blow to the hand but carried on valiantly ably supported by Ruth but whilst the middle was highly contested the speed and counter attacking of the Uni eventually won the day,

Whilst it was disappointing to lose at least Sils can see where they need to get to and in reality aren’t that far away from achieving this as long as belief is there.

MoM: Hattie who battled throughout the game often in unfamiliar territory and has settled into the team well.

DoD: Bit severe but after stalwart defending all match ending up in a heap on the floor with cramp in both legs is deemed to be sufficient for an award of this prestige well done Emma Fell
