Looking to bounce back from the last two defeats Sils took on Atherstone at home hoping for a quick turnaround in fortune but Christmas came early as within 4 minutes they were 0:2 down after hesitation in the home defence. Sils rallied and it was one way traffic for much of the half with short corners being won but there was seemingly no way through the packed Atherstone defence. Sils were continually caught on the break with swift counter attacks and once again Jo was found to be facing 3 unopposed attackers as Atherstone increased their lead further.
Emma Fell pulled one back through a penalty flick but to make matters worse if that could actually happen Atherstone broke away right on half time to increase the score to an unassailing lead of 1:4
A strong half time talk did nothing to improve the play as passes still went begging and a lack of athleticism and dynamics that was so in evidence in previous weeks had gone astray. Things were slightly better with Frankie pulling a goal back through a short corner and EJ was starting to make some critical tackles at the back as the counter attacks were starting to be managed better. There were a lot of half chances created by Sils but nothing that could be turned into goals. But Atherstone continued with their game plan and their fast forwards manged to break away once more to extend the lead further and there was no way back for Sils. A Sils rally towards the end saw a succession of short corners but to no avail.
This wasn’t a game to last in the memories and next up is Leamington so what could possibly go wrong there……
