Jess leads the way in goal blitz

After somewhat disappointing results in recent weeks Jess decided that that it was time for firm action to be taken and after a targeted training session mid week it was hoped that things would turn around to a more positive outcome.

With pretty much the full team squad available the girls took to the field and raised the pace of the game from the off with Stratford 2’s, todays opponents, chasing shadows as the rain hammered down. Oblivious to the conditions Sils were plying some good hockey passes were going to stick and open spaces were being filled with fast footed forwards stretching the Stratford defence far more than they had hoped for.

Jess led the way with a well struck opener and this was quickly followed by her second although Tammy being within inches of it apparently meant that she had a stake in it er no Tam Jess’s goal! But once the opener had been scored Stratford were up against it and were slowly being carved open at will with Ruth finding acres of space as she seemingly glided past her defender time after time but with space opening up the midfield re finding time to push forward allowing Laureen and EJ to knocth well deserved goals, Tammy did get one herself and by half time there was a strong score line of 5:0 to the Sils.

The second half carried on in much the same vein, the rain lashed down and Sils attacked a lot and as further goals were added by Louisa, Emma and a flick by Tam Sils were offered the chance to rotate some of the senior players with the youngsters to see how they faired and weren’t let down. Defence were by now calmly dealing with everything coming thee way Jo did have to come into action once to kick away and Georgie was eventually a tad too brave a she single handed decided to tackle her 6’ foot opponent and got trampled underfoot but I guess that is an alternative way to hold up play. Midfield were pretty much in control and chances were created throughout and with a bit more guile the sore could have been extended further but all this has to be taken into context with merit as teams have to be beaten, goals have to be scored and although Stratford do not win that many games this season they do not normally ship many either so credit to Sils for the manner in which they carried on and it was pleasing t see that goals were shared around and that passes around the forward line were still taking place rather than attempting solo efforts. But the training had helped significantly with 3 of the goals coming from short corner routines and the midfield were seen to be tracking back with their opponents so it would seem that the messages and drills that Emma and Jess initiate are slowly taking effect.

No doubt next weeks game against Hampton will be a harder affair.

DoD: At times you know the best thing is to stand off someone until the cavalry get back to help out or alternative you can go hell for leather and tackle a 6 foot Amazonian all by yourself and getting trampled underfoot in the process, well done Georgie Chapman the proud winner of this weeks award.
