U10s Retain John Lockwood Trophy at Yardley HC

On Sunday, a mixed U10 side travelled to Muntz Street to take part in the annual John Lockwood trophy, hosted by Yardley Hockey Club.

The previous year, the Sils U12 side had won the trophy, but this year with a change in age group, it was the turn of the U10s to compete.

The first game was against the hosts, and was a very close encounter, Sils slightly on top but the game could have gone either way, with the final score finishing at 1-1, with Gabby Walker the scorer.

Next up was local rivals Olton & West Warwicks. This match saw the best performance by the team, with a resounding 6-0 victory - Gabby with 4 goals, and Maxim with 2.

The third match was against Kings Heath, and though the side went 1-0 down, they fought back, and through two goals by Matthew Hulbert, secured a victory.

The final game would be the decider, and though Sils lost 4-1 to Sutton, the goal that Gabby scored at the end made all the difference, with the Sils scraping home on goal difference.

Well done to all the players involved - a very pleasing last tournament of the season showing some great progress for the U10s.
