Sils ran out deserved winners in this five team tournament, winning games and keeping clean sheets against Warwick, Hampton & Olton. Their only loss was a 3-1 reverse against hosts Edgbaston - the only team to field a goalkeeper, who had to make three great saves - during what was an evenly-matched encounter.
Sils played some very promising hockey throughout the tournament of 4 x 12 minute matches, using the width of the pitch well when attacking, and marking their opponents effectively when defending. Attacking short corners were well-organised, the midfield were composed and passed the ball well, and the defence worked hard to close down opponents, ensuring that most teams had a limited number of chances.
The highlight of the tournament was the final game, a 6-0 win over Olton, which included a hat trick from Daniel Bridges and a brace from Gabby Walker.
Congratulations to the whole squad, many of whom played in different positions than they are used to. All show great promise for the future.
