Depth of Club Ability highlighted by determined performance from Sils Girls

Today, Old Silhillians Hockey Club, put out an U14 team at Nuneaton and an U14 Boys team in the National Development League, as well as this fixture against Solihull Blossomfield HC. This meant that there the Sils had around 30 players turning out for the club at U14 level on one date, and since there was an all boys team playing in the National Development league, this meant that Sils played an entirely female team against Blossomfield.

We knew that this may be a challenge against Bloss, who not only could put all of their best players in their only team, but also that a significant number of these would be boys, who physically may be stronger, if not more skilful than our girls.

So it proved, that the match was dominated by the lads from Blossomfield, and whilst the home side recorded the win, there were two goals scored by Player of the Match Fleur Gallagher, and one amusing moment when Millie Harper forgot that she had been asked to play in defence, when she normally plays in attack, and scored a cracking own-goal deflecting the ball home into her own net - the positive from this showing what a great eye for goal she has!

Hopefully the girls will take the positives from the performance rather than worrying too much about the scoreline.
