On Sunday 4th of February our U14 Boys played their third round matches in the EHL Development League against Harborne and Banbury. They beat a strengthened Harborne side (2-1) and lost against a very strong Banbury outfit (2-5); but performed well. Why? The boys are developing their stick and general movement skills, due to a) great Sunday coaching b) playing in the Lions or with the men c) being involved in the JAC. They also have an excellent attitude. When they pulled Banbury back to 2-4 they surged forward looking for further goals rather than sitting back to 'close up shop' to 'limit the damage'.
Individually; Josh Bowley (fantastic proactive goal keeping; great anticipation), Daniel Newman (aggressively turned defence into attack), Charlie Russell (a rock; great attitude), Kheya Ballentine-Brain (tireless and skilful, an invaluable linchpin player), Fergus Montgomery (silky, deceptive stick skills, great distribution), Ollie Williams (great running and appreciation of space), Ben Stockhill (purposeful in attack and great tracking back to defend) and Matthew Hulbert (great control skills in the D combined with deadly finishing).
Once again thanks to all the parents for braving the bracing elements. Darren Hulbert for bringing the masks, first aid kit and shirts - appreciated. And Simon Russell (Charlie's Dad) for helping Harborne out by umpiring at such short notice!
