Youthful (ish) Club XI step up to dampen the Vets day.

Main feedback is that despite every drop of water from the heavens falling on us everybody seemed to enjoy themselves and did not drown.
The vets confidently started the match with 10 players before Gary 'the child catcher' Perkins borrowed our sub. So Harry Peachy made his adult debut for the adult section of the club in the vets! Also making their adult debuts were Luke Kent & Matt Deakin.
The club side started the more brightly of the teams, plenty of short sharp passing, with supporting lead runs seeming to leave the vets all at sea. The youth were rewarded with a couple of early PCs that they completely wasted. Phil Midgely started as he meant to carry on by failing to stop a right slip move, 1 of his many failures of the night.
1st goal came courtesy of Alex Dooley getting the final touch on smart passing move. Alex also made a spectacular goal line clearance latter in the match and had the favour returned by Gary who instinctively blocked his shot off the line.
Not 100% sure on all the goals conceded but Andre Tchakhotine executed what was clearly a well rehearsed PC routine. John Rice followed suit by picking the weak link in the club PC defence and firing a shot straight through postman Phil Midgley.
The Club side was well anchored at the back with James Hetherington filling both centre back positions due to Phil Midgely's positioning which can only be described as tidal. Paddy O'Malley was in the net and raised a very valid question on behalf of all goal keepers, Why can't a goal have a waterproof roof? Answers on a postcard please.
Man of the Match for the club side was debutant Matt Deakin who was outstanding as right half, both in supporting the attack and staving off any Vets attacks down their left wing.
Further goals came from a text book loopy drag flick from Matt Fell, James Clapham finished off another well worked passing move and Luke Kent decided he wasn't going to have a hat trick of misses as he finally latched onto one of Harry Peachy's crosses to score on his senior debut.
The highlight goal of the evening goes to team Berns. Mr & Mrs Berns worked seamlessly up the pitch with a series of 1 - 2s before Kat put the ball on a plate for Ange to tap in at the back post.
To ensure that he was the outright winner of the DOD award, (it was never in doubt Tbf) Phil Midgely managed to completely take himself out without any assistance from anyone else.
Many Thanks to Richard and Quentin for umpiring in the most horrendous conditions.
Big thanks to Rupert as well for the best teas of the year so far, Sausages, Mash, Roasted Veg and Onion gravy!
